311 Five of Everything: Song Review and Lyrics

Here we will review, hear, see the lyrics, and discuss the song meaning of 311’s new song track form their upcoming album Stereolithic, due out March 11th 2014. (Yup, 3-11)

I cannot help but see the beauty in the irony surrounding this new song. Usually, when 311 is releasing an album they do ridiculous amounts of publicity, and usually say this album will sound like their old stuff. Well, this song does sound like a great blend of old and new 311, getting fans hyped to see what the album brings.

Unlike more recent 311 album track releases, this one is surprisingly dedicated to that pure 311 sound, leaving out simple melody and catch choruses to show off their natural musical style. Could it be, 311 is letting this album speak for itself, like in the 311/Grassroots/Music era?  I will anxiously wait to hear the whole album.

Eh, nuff talking, lets hear it! 311 Five of Everything Music Video:

311 Five of Everything Lyrics:
No matter what I try there’s no room in my mind
No way to go round that, that’s just the way it is must I remind
I don’t pick up the phone but you still try to call
There’s nothing left to say you’ve already gotta know we’ve said it all

The story never ends, in search of something
But once we arrive it all starts again
Reaching for higher ground, the river’s rising
It keeps on flowing forever no matter what we have found

Sometimes it seems insane
To just keep pressing on
As if it will put out the flame
But still the thirst remains
Drink another drink
And somehow I still feel the same

Step off, head out, take flight, and just run
Got five of everything but I just need one
My brain telling me what I want, I need
Got five of everything but I still proceed

Help me fill up this hole
It’s gaping and out of control
It feels like I’m losing touch and it’s taking its toll
When this wall isn’t moving
State of things not improving
And no satisfaction in the distraction of the day

Sometimes it seems insane
To just keep pressing on
As if it will put out the flame
But still the thirst remains
Drink another drink
And somehow I still feel the same

Step off, head out, take flight, and just run
Got five of everything but I just need one
My brain telling me what I want, I need
Got five of everything but I still proceed

Living in this culture can be a drag
It’s just a commercial what we have
A one track mind we grab, grab, grab
We’re past being crazy, call us mad
Gone is the golden egg and the goose
And the bullsh** of all hell breaking loose
We gotta hit the boost
Sip on the thick juice
Disregard the bad cards
And wake the truth

Step off, head out, take flight, and just run
Got five of everything but I just need one
My brain telling me what I want, I need
Got five of everything but I still proceed

The story never ends, in search of something
But once we arrive it all starts again
Reaching for higher ground, the river’s rising
It keeps on flowing forever

Love the lyrics to this song! So now that weve heard it, read it, reviewed it, let’s ask what it’s about!

311 Five of Everything Song Meaning
We are always searching for that something extra that helps us push through in life. The older you get the more it takes to stimulate and impress you. And with age it seems everything repeats, and when you feel like you’ve seen it all, how can anything impress?

It seems 311 has a few songs like this lately, expressing the growing disinterest in things like social drama, drinking, and life problems. The chorus is a good example of this. It’s not that they are trying to be rude, but they sometimes feel like they’ve already touched on it all.

It is almost like we build a tolerance to life as we go on, and it can seem dull and empty. The irony here is expressed in the lyrics of the song. Even though you feel like you understand all around you and nothing is new, we still crave that exciting feeling of youth, such as new experiences and new ideas.
