Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas is Track 08 on Carrie Underwood’s album My Gift.
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas Song Lyrics:
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
From now on our troubles will be miles away
Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more
Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bow
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now
Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bow
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now
A merry little Christmas
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas Song Meaning:
While this version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is the version most of us remember, the original lyrics weren’t so ‘holly and jolly’. Hugh Martin wrote the song, but the lyrics were more melancholy. With lines like “Have yourself a merry little Christmas/It may be your last..” and “Faithful friends who were dear to us/Will be near to us no more.” These darker lyrics were rewritten by request of Judy Garland, who was to sing them in the movie Meet Me in St. Louis. Martin was reluctant to change the words, but eventually agreed.
Bonus: Original “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” Song Lyrics
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
It may be your last
Next year we may all be living in the past
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Pop that champagne cork
Next year we may all be living in New York
No good times like the olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who were dear to us
Will be near to us no more
But at least we all will be together
If the Lord allows
From now on, we’ll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now
