It is official, even though not much is to be seen at this point, the Warcraft movie based of the video game, World of Warcraft will be made. Not only is it in pre-production, but Blizzard along with Legendary Pictures has announced the release date, set for December 28th, 2015.
The Warcraft movie will be directed by Duncan Jones (Source Code), and is written by Charles Leavitt and Chris Metzen. Metzen has been working with and leading the story since the video game series. Strong rumors suggest actors Colin Farrell and Paula Patton will be playing some main roles in the Warcraft movie. Which works because Colin Farrell already looks like one of the weird looking humans on the game, and Patton could easily pass as an elf with make up.
I am hoping to see strong special effects much like Avatar, and that they bring the actual world of the game to life in the movie. But it should seem to rule. Also I am hoping to see some characters fighting over loot after killing someone, or someone getting a quest to do in the movie. When a game has a sense of humor the movie should, too.
With more sci-fi and fantasy movies coming out, from remakes to superheros, it is hard to say how well it will do as a movie. December 18th, 3014 is a very certain release date, so maybe that will help keep competing movies away. But than again bigger name movies like Star Wars and Hobbit may not mind.
Even though Warcraft has been one of the most successful games of all times, many people have given up on it for new games such as GTA 5 of FFXIV: A Realm Reborn. But given that it does have a large gaming audience, it could be a big hit if done right. Blizzard has made extremely impressive cinematic for in game content, lets hope that rolls over to the big screen.
